Amazon is looking to expand their contractor-based shipping network, by way of hiring independent contractors through subsidiary Amazon Flex.
How does Amazon Flex work for drivers?
Amazon Flex is Amazon’s way of rapidly expanding into new markets. Instead of relying on Fedex, UPS, or USPS, the company has developed a huge network of 1099 contractors and delivery drivers to fulfill immense shipping demand.
Amazon Flex drivers pick up packages from an Amazon fulfillment center, then safely transport the packages to the location of the customer. In doing so, there is very little interaction with fulfillment center staff or customers.
How much do Amazon Flex drivers make?
According to Amazon Flex’s website, contractors with the service can make between $18 and $25 per hour. People who have larger cars can take more volume, which in theory, equates to a larger income. Those with a larger car have been reported to make up to $25 per hour on average.
Does Amazon Flex pay for gas?
No. When working for Amazon Flex, drivers must pay for their own gas, car washes, depreciation on their vehicles, and any other expenses directly related to driving.
